Civil Rights in my classes...
In one of my classes I've been working with the song 'What a wonderful world' sung by Michael Bublé, and we've ended up talking about Louis Armstrong and Martin Luther King, Jr., and their role in the Civil Rights Movement in the USA... I hope you find this info I'm sharing with you useful!
Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of the first truly popular African-American entertainers to "cross over", whose skin-color was secondary to his music in an America that was severely racially divided. He took a well-publicized stand for desegregation during the Little Rock Crisis.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. King has become a national icon in American history.
