Cultural Diversity Day in Argentina

October 12th, 1492: Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas.

For several centuries, this event was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride.

Today, we remember this event as a bloody time in our history when thousands of natives were killed in the name of 'colonization'. Civilizations like the Incas, Mayas and Aztecs literally disappeared.

In my country, we commemorate the Europeans' arrival in our part of the world by focusing on the respect for diverse cultures.

Civil Rights in my classes...

In one of my classes I've been working with the song 'What a wonderful world' sung by Michael Bublé, and we've ended up talking about Louis Armstrong and Martin Luther King, Jr., and their role in the Civil Rights Movement in the USA... I hope you find this info I'm sharing with you useful!

Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of the first truly popular African-American entertainers to "cross over", whose skin-color was secondary to his music in an America that was severely racially divided. He took a well-publicized stand for desegregation during the Little Rock Crisis.

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. King has become a national icon in American history.
